I told a friend about Flow operating system that can be run from USB Drive. He was quite excited with that, and wanted to try out on his laptop. However, he found that BIOS of his laptop does not provides support for booting from USB Drive.
I was a bit surprised to hear that, and started searching for option to still boot from USB Drive without BIOS support. I came across this great freeware called Plop Boot Manager that lets you boot your computer from hard drive, CD/DVD, and USB Drive, even if your BIOS does not supports it.
Plop Boot Manager is quite easy to use. You can install it in your hard drive, or burn on a CD/DVD, or write image to a USB Stick ( you should not use USB drive for Plot Boot Manager if your computer does not supports booting from USB).
After that, you will boot into? Plop Boot Manager from that device (CD/DVD, or hard drive). Once booted, Plop Boot Manager will present you with its own menu where you can select the device that you want to boot from.
So, even if your computer does not lets you boot from USB drive, Plop Boot Manager will let you do that.
Plop Boot Manager is a very easy to use, simple, and useful program. It has many other features as well:

ABAlarm is a simple to use alarm software for PC. You can setup time for alarm, and add note with that. ABAlarm will countdown time to that, and will show you your note at the scheduled time. It will also make noise to grab your attention. Some other similar software we reviewed earlier include TimeLeft, and Free PC Clock Software.
ABAlarm is one of the easiest to use free alarm software that I have come across. You can choose to play sound of your choice as the alarm sound.

KeepNote is free note taking software. This program allows you to take notes on multiple systems so that you can keep your notes together. No matter what type of system you have, you can use this program to organize and keep all of your notes in one place. They are saved in a tree-like structure for easy reference as well as viewing, going between notebooks and using tools. This reminds me of personal wiki software like Zim and Linked Notes that provide similar feature.
This KeepNote free notes management software includes quite a bit of features. You can edit notes, go to them, open them and view them. You can also use certain tools to spell check for example. This program runs on Linux, Windows and Mac. Your help menu can be a big help here with the ability to change settings. Backing up this program is ideal for keeping your notes together. Export of notes into HTML format is another good feature to use. The idea here is to keep your notes together and keep them organized in a more organized fashion.
How to Use KeepNote:
So how do you use KeepNote? It is very easy to use. Simply install the program and begin taking notes. You can do this by simply creating a new notebook first, then creating empty pages within that same notebook. Once you are finished, the notebooks will be saved for later review. You can open folders to view both in File Explorer and in text. Moving between these folders is easy. Just click go and it will collapse and expand notes. The help menu gives you all the help that you need to operate this program.

pHiSearch is a free text search software that can search inside all type of files. This free text search utility comes really handy for programmers as this can search inside any type of ASCII and Unicode files.
Being a programmer myself, sometimes I am really frustrated with the search function in Windows. It does not search inside file extensions like .aspx, .vb, .js, and more. That’s where pHiSearch shines.
pHiSearch comes with a nice algorithm that can read text inside all type of files irrespective of file extension. So, pHiSearch can search in .Html, .cs, .sql, .xml, .vb, and more. Only feature that I find missing in pHiSearch is text replace feature. You can use Text Crawler for that.

- You can search using regular expressions.
- Use wildcards to filter files
- You can use an external viewer like Notepad++ to preview the content of the files.
- It can be integrated with Windows explorer.

It is completely customizable.
You can add web pages, application shortcuts, Win32 commands, files and website urls to your desktop or a folder’s context menu. You can add an application by clicking on ADD tab on the tab bar and filling the information in “Path”, “Icon” and the “Text” fields. After doing this, don’t forget to click the “Set” button to get it done. And the settings would be saved.
Similarly, if you want to add a website link, just fill the Url, Icon and the Text fields and click on the SET button. You can also remove these applications according to your needs and interests. It is very easy to use and with simple features. The best thing is that this application is absolutely free.

You can clear a list by just clicking the CLEAR ALL button on the upper row.
Over all, this is an amazing application, which is absolutely free. So, you can also get rid of doing the same things again and again by getting a copy of this software, which will cost you nothing.

PowerLink is a free software that lets you shutdown, restart, or hibernate your computer with just one click. When you run this program, it will create 3 new icons on your desktop. One will be to shutdown your computer, another to restart, and another to hibernate. Just click on those icons, and the computer will perform that operation.
I do not see much utility of shutdown or restart icons, but I find icon for Hibernate actually useful. So, I would run this utility to create all the 3 icons, and then delete icons of shutdown and restart. This would leave me with icon to hibernate the computer with just one click :)
